 Sr. Research Subjects Specialist -- Baltimore, MD

General Description: The Sr. Research Subjects Specialist works with Center for Communication Program's (CCP) Research Division Director and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) Office at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH). This position functions as CCP's liaison with the IRB at the JHSPH and tracks each protocol through the IRB/subcommittee approval process, evaluates for recurrent problems, develops and implements systems to decrease delays in the project approval process and intervenes as required to facilitate approval. This position serves as a central CCP resource and technical advisor for CCP's local and international staff and faculty developing research projects in the US and abroad. Primary duties and responsibilities are: Advise and assist CCP faculty, students and research staff with the development of research protocols and documentation to address ethical and regulatory issues in advance of submission to the JHSPH IRB Office. This includes the development of guidelines/templates to help meet Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP), JHU and Federal regulations that can be used in a standard way for research projects across different countries. Review, edit and enhance study protocols to meet IRB regulations. Prepare IRB regulatory submission applications, initiate and manage study regulatory files for all CCP research projects. Assist in the preparation of research plans, consent forms, recruitment scripts, and other study materials, as needed. Evaluate submissions for recurrent problems, develop and implement systems to decrease delays in the project approval process and intervene as required to facilitate approval. Oversee submission of amendments, yearly protocol renewals and study protocol terminations. Remain up to date on IRB revisions and modifications to procedures and templates and make sure that these are implemented accordingly across research projects. Attend relevant conferences and meetings to stay abreast of current information on the ethics and legal issues related to human subject protections, as well as best practices. Assist the faculty and staff of the Research Division with administrative procedures related to the hiring of student interns, track attendance, oversee management of the Research library, and other administrative and organizations tasks as needed. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, as well as sensitive and effective communication and interpersonal skills. Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Three years of related human subjects compliance and/or research administration experience is required. Graduate level training can substitute for up to two years of related experience. Require good analytical and writing skills. Knowledge and understanding of all Institutional Review Board related, OHRP and Federal, State and local human subject protection regulations. Strong Computer Skills, Expert Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Strong Internet Search Skills. Certification in Human Subjects Research preferred.
