The selected candidate will be responsible for coordinating and providing administrative support to committees and the human research protections program with emphasis on compliance and regulatory issues relating to human participant research. The chosen candidate will review research proposals for compliance with governmental regulations, and initiate written correspondence and/or telephone contact with the investigator, requesting clarification and/or additional information to enable sound judgments to ensure compliance issues for all federal regulations that govern research are met. In addition, the individual will assist faculty, students and staff in preparing human research protocols for compliance certification, develop and maintain federally required training materials, present seminars/workshops to University faculty, staff and students about regulations governing human participants involved in research at Penn State, and visit other campus locations to provide training as necessary. The selected candidate will interact with various compliance committees as needed, manage the appropriate documentation relating to the compliance review and approval, assist in developing policies and procedures to ensure University compliance with governmental regulations, and may hire, supervise, train, and/or evaluate assigned staff. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus six years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent organizational, verbal and written skills are required. Obtaining and maintaining national certification in research protections management (i.e., Certified IRB Professional certification or equivalent) will be expected. Individuals with knowledge of federal regulations regarding the protection of human research participants or experience in conducting human research are preferred. Knowledge of electronic data management systems is desired. Candidates with a degree in nursing or other biomedical-oriented degrees are strongly encouraged to apply. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
