General Description:
Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research at The City University of New York (CUNY) is seeking two (2) Institutional Review Board Administrators. Each Administrator will be expected to perform complex and confidential duties to facilitate the review and approval of human subjects research to ensure the rights and welfare of participants are protected and research is conducted in compliance with federal, state and local regulations and University policies. Primary responsibilities include reviewing research submissions and managing the operations of The City University of New York’s five (5) Institutional Review Boards (IRBs).
Other Duties
Specific Duties: Providing support for the operation of CUNY’s five (5) Institutional Review Boards.
Duties include:
· Processing of human subjects submissions for proper IRB review in accordance with federal, state and local regulations and University policies.
· Conducting a “pre-review” of all submissions using the Pre-Reviewer Checklist
· Providing support to investigators during the submission and approval processes of the IRBs
· Coordinating the activities of multiple IRB’s, ensuring equitable workload between them.
· Maintaining the IRBNet database
· Coordinating the logistics and scheduling of all IRB meetings
· Assists the Chair in conducting the IRB meetings; i.e. ensuring quorum, advising on regulations and policies, etc.
· Developing agendas and writing IRB meeting minutes
· Ensuring accurate routing of sponsor/investigator/IRB member/other campus office correspondence to and from the appropriate IRB.
· Assignment of amendments, unanticipated problems, investigator responses to appropriate reviewer(s) and/or to appropriate IRB.
· Representing CUNY IRB’s in meetings as required.
· Communicating and corresponding with IRB members and investigators on IRB matters.
· Maintaining open communications with CUNY Campus HRPP Coordinators
· Reporting to the Director for Research Compliance for all IRB matters.
· Assisting with audits
· Will be expected to travel to the various CUNY campuses.
· Other duties as assigned by the Director
Salary: $50,000 to $70,000
Qualifications
· Minimum, Bachelor’s degree.
· Knowledge of principles of ethical conduct of research with human subjects.
· 3-5 years administrative experience in human subjects protections.
· Currently holds or must seek certification as a Certified IRB Professional (CIP) within 36 months of hire.
· Experience with federal (OHRP, NIH, FDA and other government agencies) and state regulations governing human participant research.
· Ability to analyze and apply regulations to written research protocols and convey information verbally and in writing to faculty and staff.
· Knowledge of computer application packages and software to track IRB applications (experience with IRBNet is preferred).
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with all levels of individuals in a respectful and supportive manner.
· Ability to handle constant and recurring deadlines.
· Effective time management skills.
