WestEd, a nonprofit research, development, and service agency, works with education and other communities to promote excellence, achieve equity, and improve learning for children, youth, and adults. While WestEd serves the states of Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah as one of the nation's Regional Educational Laboratories, our agency's work extends throughout the United States and abroad. WestEd has 17 offices nationwide, from Washington and Boston to Arizona, Southern California, and its headquarters in San Francisco.
Program Services: Office of Research Integrity
Based in WestEd's headquarters within the Program Services department, the agency’s Office of Research Integrity assures compliance with various research requirements for protection of human subjects and the privacy of individuals’ data. WestEd staff must engage with the education and human development fields in a respectful and careful manner, leaving those with whom we interact with the best possible impression of WestEd. The agency must also comply with school and district policies, and communicate effectively with those involved in or affected by our work. The Office, though its Human Research Protection Program, supports and reinforces responsible practices regarding information handling, privacy concerns, research misconduct, and human subjects research to assure compliance, and supports program staff in taking their research plans through the review process with the agency's Institutional Review Board.
REL West
Education in the western region, and nationwide, can be substantially improved through better use of research evidence. This understanding drives the Regional Educational Laboratory West (REL West) in its work with policymakers and educators in its four-state region — Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah.
Like the other Regional Educational Laboratories, REL West conducts both long-term rigorous evaluations of promising interventions and short-term, fast response projects and technical assistance to inform immediate action. REL West communicates research-based information to the region and the nation in ways that are understandable and tailored to the needs of the audience, through print publications and events. Staff also help educators and policymakers interpret evidence and evaluation methods.
