RESEARCH PROGRAM SPECIALIST

This position in our Research Projects dept is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Glendale Memorial Regional Institutional Review Board (IRB) which provides the ethical and regulatory oversight of Human Subjects Research for three CHW Hospitals; California Hospital Medical Center, Mercy Hospital Bakersfield and Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health center. This position will also be responsible to facilitate Administrative approval of human subjects research by working directly with each facility Accountable Executive for Research. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure timely and efficient coordination of research proposals submitted by either facility for IRB and Administrative review and approval.
Must have outstanding organizational skills and research knowledge in the application of regulations that promote the protection of human subjects. Must exercise independent judgment when making determinations about the need for IRB review of Catholic Healthcare West activities that meet the federal definition of research. This position will be housed at the Glendale Campus and will report directly to Glendale Memorial Accountable Executive for Research.
o Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
o Three years of relevant IRB management experience.
o Master’s degree in health related field is preferred.
o The successful candidate will have earned the Certified IRB Professional (CIP) credential or be eligible to sit for this exam within one year of hire.
o Experience in healthcare or hospital setting strongly preferred.
o Demonstrated ability to work with researchers, students and administration.
o Knowledge of relevant federal, state or local regulations, ICH-GCP’s, (International Conference on Harmonization) (Good Clinical Practice) clinical/behavioral research methodologies /terminology.
o Ability to interpret research protocol information in relation to federal regulations/guidelines, and internal policies.
o Exercise sound judgment and make recommendations and/or decisions regarding research policies and procedures.
o Experience with web based IRB submission and IRB management applications and tools.
o Advanced experience using spreadsheet, database and word processor applications as well as computerized tracking systems.
