IRB Review Specialist, Office of Human Research Administration (Req # 20778BR)
Under the direction of the Office of Human Research Administration (OHRA) Director and Associate/Assistant Directors, incumbent is responsible for performing administrative review for assigned Departments. Specifically, the incumbent will:
-exercise the authority to make not-human-subjects/exemption determinations;
-approve non-exempt minimal risk research using the expedited review procedure;
-approve minor changes in approved research not otherwise eligible for expedited review;
-review unanticipated problems involving risks to subjects or others that are not serious;
-serve as a voting (alternate) member of the IRB;
-provide for smooth day-to-day flow of communications within IRB staff/operations;
-review, assess, and route all incoming correspondence and IRB submissions (intake) to appropriate reviewer in a timely manner; and
-participate in IRB-related QA/QI and educational activities as needed.
The incumbent is required to work independently with minimal supervision in selecting and applying established regulations and procedures appropriately, and in determining when to refer situations/issues to Directors.
Basic Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree with minimum of 3 years direct IRB experience. Current Certified IRB Professional (CIP)
-Solid understanding of federal and state regulations governing human research
-Strong analytical, written and oral communication skills, and ability to multi-task in a busy office environment while maintaining superior customer service
-Ability to use multiple technical applications including word processing, database management, spreadsheets, graphics and presentation software, electronic calendar, email, and other technical applications
-Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
