DESCRIPTION:
A Senior Research Assistant position is available at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute, an interdisciplinary institution dedicated to conducting basic, clinical and translational research on conditions and diseases that affect children.
The position of Senior Research Assistant will report to the Associate Director of Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg's "Building Resilience in Military Children, Adolescents and Families" project in the Craig-Dalsimer Division of Adolescent Medicine at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Ginsburg is an Attending Physician in Adolescent Medicine and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. The successful candidate will perform diverse and complex research managerial tasks for Dr. Ginsburg, the Program Director and Sara Kinsman, MD, PhD (Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at CHOP). An extensive amount of collaboration will also take place with a multidisciplinary team of professionals external to CHOP (e.g., Military Adolescent Medicine specialists).
The ideal candidate will have a high degree of understanding of research practices and IRB procedures. Principal responsibilities include conducting on-line and library research as well as preparing, coordinating and tracking materials for all initial and continuing review Institutional Review Board submissions (including study modifications through CHOP's "eIRB" system and collaborating external IRB's). The Senior Research Assistant (SRA) should be able to review a large literature and synthesize findings related to behavioral health issues. The SRA will also collaborate in the preparation of reports to funding sources and preparation of scientific manuscripts. Periodically, the SRA will assist in the training and supervision of a work-study student. Opportunities to collaborate in the presentation of ongoing research findings at professional conferences and through professional manuscripts for submission to refereed journals may also be available.
Responsibilities include:
Assist in the preparation and management of materials to submit for IRB approval
* Over the course of the first few weeks, they will be required to become proficient in eIRB submission and renewals.
* Ensure that regulatory files and study sponsor are current and in compliance with CHOP IRB regulations and approvals including informed consent, reporting of adverse events (serious and non-serious), etc.
* Complete and maintain all primary CITI Ethics education contact for investigators and coordinators.
* Maintain an up-to-date and complete manual of operations.
* Participate in conversations with multidisciplinary team members concerning the research process and necessary steps.
* Log IRB paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge on all policies and procedures surrounding these processes for all participating Institutional Review Boards.
Assist in the preparation of reports and professional manuscripts about research measures and a portion of the findings
* Conduct thorough literature searches.
* Obtain references and copies of printed resources.
* Participate in timely preparation of reports to funding source.
* Assist in all aspects of preparation of professional papers for submission to refereed journals.
* Collaborate in the presentation of ongoing research findings at professional conferences.
* Compose meeting result letters to study investigators and associated personnel, relaying specific requests and timely follow-up of the same.
Assist in training and supervising a work-study student
* Train and oversee library research.
* Train and supervise work on coordination of IRB materials.
**This is a part-time position (16 hours per week) with flexible scheduling. The project is expected to last a minimum of 2 (two) years.**
