The first Orthopaedic hospital in the United States, Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), founded in 1863, is a voluntary non-profit hospital dedicated exclusively to diagnosing and treating Orthopaedic and rheumatologic conditions from infancy to adulthood. Located in Midtown Manhattan, HSS is in close proximity to New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Medical College of Cornell University, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and The Rockefeller University. The Research Division of the hospital is dedicated to basic and patient-oriented research of various musculoskeletal and immune system diseases, as well as to the development of innovative modalities for their treatment.

The following opportunity is available:

IRB Administrator

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Research Administration, you will provide support to the IRB office by receiving and processing all protocols proposing research projects involving human subjects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

A.Administrative review of all new expedited protocols and responses to the committee to assess accuracy of submissions regarding deficiencies, inconsistencies or concerns. Identifies and reports items of concern for further action.

B.Monitor continuing review of research for compliance; identify and report items of concern for further action.

C.Inclusion of all expedited reviews on ViceChair report on a monthly basis for board meeting.

D.Attend IRB meetings, contribute to discussion to facilitate the efficient function of the meetings.

E.Provide consultation to fellows, residents, PIs, coordinators on submission requirements, assist in preparation of the protocols, and provide review prior to submission.

F.Review and forward SAE reports to appropriate board member. Include on monthly agenda, as needed.

G.Proofread agenda, vice chair report, chair report, and any other materials included for the agenda.

H.Other duties as assigned.

To qualify, you must have a Bachelor’s degree, 3 years administrative experience, familiarity with FDA, USDA and NIH regulations and policies.
