The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a qualified professional to direct the Office of Research Support (ORS). The Associate Vice President (AVP) for Research and Director will establish priorities for the ORS, provide administrative oversight, and manage implementation of policies and procedures related to research involving humans, animals, and chemical / biological toxins. ORS staff supports three federally mandated, institutional regulatory committees (IRB, IACUC, IBC) and works with the chairmen of these committees to review, recommend, and participate in the development of campus procedures to meet federal, state, and university regulations. The AVP-Director will manage electronic systems used for monitoring regulated activities and supervise staff coordinators with the processing of committee activity, protocol review, document management, and researcher interface. Important components of this position are to ensure ongoing accreditation for human and animal research programs and implement a comprehensive web-based campus outreach program of relevant training for researchers and students to ensure that regulatory requirements are incorporated into best research practices. Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to play a proactive role in the professional development of ORS personnel and the vision to develop innovative strategies for meeting regulatory compliance issues while providing excellent customer-friendly service to university researchers. This position reports to the Vice President for Research and is the primary point of contact for inquiries regarding regulatory compliance related to research involving humans, animals, and chemical or biological toxins.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline; five years of experience administering a research support office; knowledge of IRB, IACUC, and IBC regulations; and strong managerial and communication skills to effectively and efficiently manage a multifaceted program that deals with complex regulatory issues. Experience leading a research support office at a major university with a diverse research portfolio is preferred. Having previous experience in conducting research and/or teaching in an academic setting is a strength.
