Position Description:
Manages the development, maintenance, and production support efforts for all applications within the scope of the product area consistent with established department objectives and in accordance with standard operating procedures. Oversees the work of all functional, technical and performance support staff for the product area. Manages the functional and performance support staff. Leads strategic planning efforts and partners with business offices on consulting initiatives. Oversees manpower, workload, and resources to maximize efficiency and meet program objectives.
Responsibilities:
Manages the Research Administration System Compliance product team charged with completing multiple, simultaneous projects involving shared resources and integration points in accordance with standard operating procedures. Work with Office of Vice President of Research, Medical School Dean’s Office, all UM Institutional Review Board (IRB) offices, General Clinical Research Center (GCRC), and UM Cancer Center to set product strategy. Act as MAIS interface to campus compliance efforts, including IRB Council and other Advisory Groups. Manage support for 9000+ users, including communication, training and technical support
Leads strategic planning efforts for the product area, resolving conflicting and competing priorities among campus units by working with the central service units and University leadership. Partners with units and central offices on consulting initiatives.
Conducts effective cross-organization communications with co-workers, teams, and business offices, ensuring proactive and appropriate dissemination of information. Communicates with customers on an on-going basis regarding status of requests. Maintains all appropriate documentation.
Implements vendor software and educates campus decision makers on the benefits of utilizing delivered vendor functionality. Reviews and approves proposed modifications to systems. Provides for future support and ongoing development of all systems in the product area, including peripheral and legacy systems. Identifies and resolves dependency and integration issues across product areas.
Oversees the consulting, process redesign, software development, training, and documentation services for the assigned projects. Ensures project deliverables are produced which meet the standards of the organization. Contributes to technical and project planning for the organization. Establishes operational processes, procedures and standards.
Ensures projects are completed within time and budget requirements utilizing standard project and program management tools and techniques. Provides input and guidance to ensure the planning and execution of deliverables meet the objectives of the organization and the customer. Collaborates with performance support team to provide information and timing for training materials, communications, and other performance support efforts.
Recruits, coaches, and counsel employees for success, conducts performance reviews, develops salary planning proposals, and assists employees with career development planning and training.
Leads and performs periodic special assignments for internal initiatives. Prepares or oversees the preparation of special and periodic reports on department operations.
**The potential salary range for this position is $74,615 - $97,000 annually for a 100% appointment, and may vary depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum 10 years related experience including but not limited to research administration, regulatory compliance, process improvement (modeling, analysis, and redesign), data modeling, client relationship management, technical writing (system documentation and training materials), systems development methodologies.
Minimum 4 years supervisory experience, to include recruiting, mentoring, career development, performance management, leadership, and team building, and a proven ability to lead a project team to meet customer expectations.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills in project management and analysis, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills relating to relational database concepts, systems analysis and design.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with all levels of staff.
Proficient skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Demonstrated experience with budget planning and conformance, determining project objectives and requirements, anticipating and solving problems, and developing standards and guidelines for diverse activities.
Demonstrated ability to comprehend and integrate large-scale projects into overall department direction.
Demonstrated skills in researching and writing proposals and purchase justifications.
Demonstrated successful performance with independent problem solving, presentations, leadership, and coordinating and completing multiple tasks within and across departments to meet changing deadlines.
Preferred:
Experience working in a higher education environment; knowledge of human research approval processes and applicable regulations.
